Souvenir

Because I was so slow in doing my last illustration I thought I would get on top of it this time and be super fast! Here is my little souvenir. I am calling it 'House in the hand'.

Here is my Bouquet, ridiculously late and ridiculously photographed, silly wobbly paper. I will scan this next week properly on an a3 scanner and never work above a4 again!

I wanted to capture the awkward feeling of being foreign. A person brings their culture and ideas with them when they move.

Well Aine here it is! Great minds think alike or... when one thinks of crowds they immediately think... public transport!

Dormant Landscape

This is my illustration of dormant. It is a frozen lake. 'Dormant' conjures up images of snow and ice and lonely houses in the dark.

an idea

ok, sounds like we both want to develop our images that we did for this project. so aine, what do you think about doing 5 images that could be developed into a narrative? maybe we could make a book at the end. so the challange is, you've got 2 weeks to make 5 images using black and white with a narrative in mind. maybe at this stage they don't necessarily have to have the plot yet, so just make the images and we'll build plots later....

black and white

 

i've done lots for this theme. i really enjoyed getting out the black water colour and keeping it really simple. i thought a lot about different black and white things and the first thing that came to mind were the black and white tiles that lined the hallway in the house my dad grew up in in tasmania. ithe house is called quamby, it is now run by the overland track tour people. i think the black and white tiles are still in the house...  will have to investigate one day.

the lilies were for my mum's birthday. grace gave me the lilies for my exhibition opening. i have been enjoying them a lot and now they are immortalised in a picture! muy bien!

...oh no, not another beard!?

So this is perhaps a bit of a tenuous link to the title but any excuse to sew beards. The illustration evolved quite a bit in photoshop. I like drawing faces and making different funny little characters.

Country: Picnic

It's been getting decidedly Spring-like here in London lately (well, except for the freak snowfall now and then) so I wanted to translate that in my 'Country' illustration. It's quite a cheerful scene - a sort of jolly outdoor tea party where everyone is hoping it won't rain.

It was the aniversary of the Black Saturday bushfires yesterday so I think I was thinking a lot about our "sunburnt country". I am not sure that it totally works... but I do like the stitching.

So here it is. It's quite straight forward. If i were to dress up... i'd want to go looking like robin hood!

beginning to rain

here is my first illustration for 'beginnings'. i thought long and hard about this idea and then it began to rain outside and so i though, ah ha, that's what i will do! it is called 'beginning to rain.' it's pretty simple, but when you start something it is often quite simple so that is what i am going for. so aine... we await your picture! x
