So here it is. It's quite straight forward. If i were to dress up... i'd want to go looking like robin hood!

Dressing-up: pretending

I interpreted dressing-up to be putting on a "brave face" or pretending. 

As I started composing the image I imagined the characters to be an unhappily married couple dressing-up for some sort of strained social occasion (like a relative's wedding). The woman dresses up in a fancy hat and the man "wears" a smile. They pose as a happy couple though secretly they can't stand each other anymore.

But now as I look at their expressions, their faces seem to suggest grief more than anything else. Perhaps it's not that they have an unhappy marriage but it's that they have recently experienced a loss and are putting on a brave face in public.

Either way, rather bleak. Maybe Lizzie's will be more cheerful!

No. 2: 'dressing-up'

Wowzers, I'm super impressed they we've both managed to get our first project posted ahead of the Sunday noon (GMT) deadline - Hoorah!

My suggestion for this week's theme is 'dressing-up'. I think this can lend itself to lots of different interpretations, let's see what we come up with :)

In the beginning...

It's quite amazing to see how two people interpret the same thing very differently!

I've gone a bit biblical in my response to the theme of 'Beginnings'. I find lots of Bible stories quite fascinating - especially the crazy Old Testament ones. This illustration refers to man's disobedience in the garden of Eden:

 

3:1 Now the serpent was more subtile than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

3:2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:

3:3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

3:4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

3:5 for God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

beginning to rain

here is my first illustration for 'beginnings'. i thought long and hard about this idea and then it began to rain outside and so i though, ah ha, that's what i will do! it is called 'beginning to rain.' it's pretty simple, but when you start something it is often quite simple so that is what i am going for. so aine... we await your picture! x
